Argo X: the model enters the mass market with a price tag of up to US$25,000 (Fiat/courtesy)Fiat has released the first images of the production version of the Panda developed for Latin America, where it will be built and sold under the name Argo X. The new model will replace the current Argo, a car developed specifically for the South American market whose styling took a simpler approach to some of the design cues seen on the European Fiat Tipo.
The arrival of the Argo X marks a step towards bringing Fiat’s global and Latin American line-ups closer together. In Brazil, the brand has long offered a range of vehicles that differs considerably from what Fiat sells in Italy. The last time Fiat produced a closely related European model in Brazil was the Punto, whose local production ended in 2015.

Unlike the Panda, Fiat is not expected to feature the model name embossed prominently on the sides. The Fiat badge will also be positioned in the centre of the front grille, rather than offset to one side as on the Italian version.

It will be offered with two engine options: entry-level versions will feature a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre engine producing 76 hp, while more expensive variants will get a turbocharged 1.0-litre unit delivering 115 hp.
Despite releasing exterior images, Fiat has yet to reveal the cabin or confirm whether it will follow the same design as the European model. That appears unlikely, as Stellantis is expected to simplify some aspects of the Latin American version in order to keep production costs under control.
The Italian Panda features a light-coloured cabin and a bamboo-fibre dashboard trim. For Latin America, the Argo X is expected to adopt a more conventional interior, with darker plastics and simpler materials more typical of models produced for the region.
